Grouping modes

The combine feature supports two distinct grouping modes: Group by variant and Ungrouped. The mode you select controls how line items from different sales orders are consolidated on the final PO you send to your supplier.

1: Group by variant (default)

When Group by variant is enabled, the app intelligently aggregates line items across all Shopify orders and groups them by the actual product variant (using Shopify’s variant ID).

Behaviour:

  • All purchases of the same variant (e.g., “T-Shirt – Black – Size M”) from any order are summed together.
  • Results in a clean, PO with one line per unique variant
  • All line item properties are omitted if you enabled them, as referenced in this guide.

Example

Selected orders contain:

OrderVariantQty
#1001T-Shirt – Black – M5
#1001T-Shirt – Black – L3
#1002T-Shirt – Black – M8
#1003T-Shirt – Black – M12
#1003Hoodie – Gray – XL4

Resulting PO lines (grouped)

LineVariantTotal Qty
1T-Shirt – Black – M25
2T-Shirt – Black – L3
3Hoodie – Gray – XL4

2. Ungrouped

In this case no grouping is performed — every line item from every Shopify order becomes its own separate line on the PO, even if the variant is identical.

Behaviour:

  • The same variant can appear multiple times.
  • No summing occurs — you see the original order breakdown.
  • Line item properties are displayed correctly for each product because no grouping is performed

Example (same orders as above)

LineVariantQty
1T-Shirt – Black – M5
2T-Shirt – Black – L3
3T-Shirt – Black – M8
4T-Shirt – Black – M12
5Hoodie – Gray – XL4
